Reflecting on Facilitation of the App Lesson
Facilitating the lesson with peers, and in such a short amount of time was limiting. I find it hard to be as serious with peers as I would need it to be for the practice to be of any real benefit. I genuinely do not find the process beneficial to my learning and would much prefer to have spent the time exploring the applications brought forward more in depth.
The ability to have them create the planets themselves based on the research they had done was not possible so we made due with print outs of the planets, took some of the fun out of it. The video selected went over really well, and the consolidation activity of having the students sort and hang the planets was a hit.
There were no indicators that we would need to amend the lesson plan or approach the delivery of the lesson plan any differently. Overall I would happily use this lesson plan in DIV 2 classrooms, in the future. The application provides so much information about all things space, and even includes built in games. Although we did not use the games, it would be fun to have students learn through playing the games.
Lovely post Kira! I definitely agree that it is much different in teaching our colleagues compared to teaching our students. I am glad that you find that you could apply this lesson plan in the future and that it went very smoothly! I do wonder if the app we used could be applied to different outcomes and topics in the science curriculum besides the ones we met in our lesson.
