Clean Water Coding - A Grade 2 Intergraded Science and Technology Lesson Plan
Clean Water Coding Lesson Plan
This lesson plan provides grade two students with the opportunity to develop science, and technological competency. Students will learn about the water on our planet, and how humans can impact this valuable element both negatively and positively. They will be introduced to the following video which will introduce key concepts, Water Pollution for Kids | Learn How to Keep Our Water Clean: 7 minute video, by Learn Bright. There is an incorporated quiz in the video to provide an additional opportunity to develop their understanding. Next the students will code their own water clean up adventure, followed by reflection on their experiences coding. I would love to integrate this lesson plan into a community (school) based project where the kids could also work to raise awareness of the impacts that pollution of our water have on all life. They could have other students play their simulation at a schoolwide fair about environmental awareness.
I really enjoy how your lesson plan allows for a lot of reflection on the students of their own work. I think we can teach students skills in analyzing on their own work and assignments and help them develop those skills. I also like how you extend this lesson into other areas for students to teach and learn, such as science fairs. I do wonder how this lesson could be expanded and used into other impacts on the environment, such as climate change.
